The community pharmacist can provide help with many minor conditions

They include:

  • Athlete’s Foot
  • Acne
  • Sore throat
  • Warts and Verrucae
  • Conjunctivitis > 2 years old
  • Hay fever
  • Vaginal thrush
  • Cold sores
  • Threadworms
  • Ear Pain > 2 years old

If you suffer from any of the above, try calling or going to your pharmacy and asking if they can help with the problem. They are there to help you and will suggest the best course of action.

Exemptions

If you are exempt from asking your pharmacist for help for the below reasons, please call us or use online query.

Exemptions are:
  • Children under 2 years with uncomplicated conjuntivitis
  • Vaginal thrush; if pregnant, over 60, under 16, or treatment already used for 2 weeks
  • See sore throat, acne, conjunctivitis and ear pain below

Sore Throat

If you have:
  • Difficulty breathing or are unable to swallow saliva or fluids you need to see a medical doctor immediately
  • You have had a fever for longer than 3 days
  • The sore throat has lasted longer than a week
  • The pain is not managed by pain relief from the chemist

Acne

If you have tried topical treatments/creams from the chemist for more than 6 weeks or have:

  • Pain or feels its severe
  • Feel distressed
  • Scarring
  • Think there is some other medical problem causing it

Conjunctivitis > 2 years old

If you have:
  • Eye pain
  • Reduced vision
  • Sensitivity to light
Ear pain > 2 years old
If you have:
  • Had it for more than 4 days
  • There is fluid from the ears
  • There is severe pain despite pain relief from the chemist
